Walgreens Deal 3/9/2009

I made my first deal seeking trip to Walgreens this morning. I feel like I had a very successful first trip. Thanks to the many Walgreens 101 articles I have read explaining the finer points of saving money at Walgreens.

I purchased today:
Gariner Shampoo 2.99 with easysave coupon 2.00 and manufactures coupon of 1.oo = free
Gariner Conditioner 2.99 - 2.oo - 1.oo = free
(3) Acne Skin System 19.99 - 5.00 sale - 3.oo coupon = 11.99
L'Oreal makeup 10.99 BOGO - 3.00 manufacture's coupon 7.99
L'Oreal makeup 10.49 BOGO Free - 3.00 manufactue's coupon = -3.oo
(2) Smart Balance Butter Spread BOGO 2.99 - 1.00 coupon = 1.99 for two bb-

The sub-total was 95.41
WAG Sale - 30.48
Coupons - 22.00
Sub-total 42.93 ++++++ I earned my first WAGS RR's of $8.00!!!

I thought I did really well for my first WAGS shopping Spree.
Now I just need to figure out how to roll the RR's for more! Check back later for my Walgreens update on rolling the RR's.

Duncan Hines Brownies Deal at Foodlion

Today I completed the Duncan Hines Brownie Mix deal at Foodlion. Foodlion has the brownies on sale 10 for $10 they are regularly priced at my local Foodlion at $1.83. I had 20 35 cents off coupons. I considered holding the coupons until March 12th when another local grocery store is having triples but after doing the math I decided to part with them this week.

Retail price $1.83 x 20 = 36.60
On Sale price $1.00 x 20 = 20.00
Coupons .35 x 20 = 7.00
My OOP $13.00 and my savings from retail price was $23.60 not including tax.

Not a bad day of savings for a few minutes of work!

I have been thinking about the upcoming triples and wondering if it was a mistake but after calculating an almost 64% savings at Foodlion this week I decided not to gamble. The other grocery store's retail price is higher and if the brownie mix was not on sale I would actually spend more money going with the triple deal. If the brownie mix was on sale with the triple deal I probably could have snagged a better deal but would have had to make multiple trips since they only allow 4 of the same coupons with each visit. Today, was not exactly pennies on the dollar but I will take 64% off and have a nice stock pile of brownie mix.

I plan to complete the CVS L'Oreal ECB deal today and I will be reporting on those numbers soon. I had to send the wife with the coupons, ECBs, CVS sale paper and instructions since she needs to choose the items. I think these numbers are going to be awesome!

My First Big Savings Adventure at Rite Aid

I have been playing with couponing for almost a year now but I have never been able to figure out how to get the great deals. So I turned to the internet to read about others success. Inspired by the success of others I decided to did a little to find a really special deal. After two trips to Rite Aid and feeling like I did really good I created a tracking sheet to figure out how well I did on purchasing Covergirl Cosmetics for my teenage daughter. I created columns to show the actual retail, coupons used, sale price and lastly how much did I actually spend column. WOW! I am so excited I finally had a great story to tell and decided I would join the other couponing frugal bloggers of the world. I hope by creating a blog I will continue search out the deals. My big savings adventure began with the Rite Aid sales paper which had a Buy One Get One Free Covergirl Cosmetics sale on the front page. Since my daughter has been sneaking into my wife's cosmetics I thought it was time to buy her own. A little short on cash I began to figure out a way to buy as much as possible and spend as little as possible. I collected 10 $1.00 off coupons and a $25.00 Rite Aid Gift card I recieved when I transferred a prescription last month and began to do the math actually I had two gift cards but one only had $1.oo and some change left on it. In two trips I was able to purchase $80.17 worth of cosemtics for 31.73 and used my prescription transfer gift cards to reduce the Out of Pocket cost to $5.19!! I know the OOP is not under a $1 but I was so happy. My wife is happy because she does not have to share with my daughter and my daughter is happy to have her own collection of cosmetics. It was a great shopping day and figuring out my overall savings! The savings just seem more impressive to me in a chart since the reciepts leave off some of the details.
